BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield City Council is expected to approve appropriating and transferring $25,000 to Community Action Partnership of Kern on Wednesday to help with funding amid the government shutdown, according to the agenda.
The city council meeting is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Nov. 5 at City Hall’s Council Chambers at 1501 Truxtun Ave.
The $25,000 would help the CAPK Food Bank meet the funding gap, the agenda said. The money would be appropriated from Council Contingency funds and transferred to the food bank.
According to city officials, the federal government shutdown led to food distribution shortages. The agenda said support is needed to meet the funding shortage that community-based organizations with food security are experiencing.
The Bakersfield City Council is recommended by staff to approve the appropriation and transfer at its meeting on Wednesday, the agenda said.
CAPK is set to open several food distribution sites for SNAP and CalFresh recipients across Kern County starting Monday. For more information, click here.
