San Diego police fired at a man who barricaded himself in a downtown apartment after threatening to attack his mother with a knife on Tuesday afternoon.
Police officers received a call around 1 p.m. about the incident at an apartment building at Sixth Avenue and Cedar Street, according to the San Diego Police Department. SWAT units arrived and police were able to help the mother exit the building, but the suspect had barricaded himself inside.
Soon after, smoke could be seen rising from windows of the building. Fire crews arrived and began evacuating people from the building, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Police then fired on the suspect and emergency responders performed CPR on the man, according to SDPD.
No officers were hurt during the incident.
The condition of the man was not immediately clear.
