ROCHESTER HILLS – Hailee Lane’s high school softball career came to a close this month.
The recent graduate of Macomb L’Anse Creuse North did add one more postseason honor to her resume Tuesday – and of the MVP style.
Lane, who earned All-Macomb Area Conference and All-District honors this season, earned MVP honors at the fourth annual MAC-OAA All-Star Softball Game at Oakland University, helping her team cruise to a 14-3 victory over their counterparts from Oakland County.
The Macomb Area Conference (1986) and the Oakland Activities Association (1994) are two of the oldest and largest leagues in the Metro Detroit area and in the state in general. This is the fourth annual game between the two conference – with the MAC winning each meeting.
This 11-run margin was also the largest margin of victory turned in at the fourth annual all-star game.
“My season didn’t end the way I had hoped,” said Lane, whose team lost in the Division 1 district semifinals to eventual state semifinalist Macomb Dakota. “But it’s nice to get this award.
“This feels really good. I really wanted to come out and play well for my team,” added Lane, who helped L’Anse Creuse North finish 25-11 back in the high school season. “I was (looking) for the outside pitch (on the three-run) pitcher. I had to be proactive and try to get the (first runs) on the board for my team.”

The MAC, which has schools from Macomb County, St. Clair County and northeastern Wayne County, added two more runs in the third inning, picked up six runs in the fourth frame and plated its final two runs in the fifth to take a commanding 14-0 lead.
The OAA, which has all of its schools but one in Oakland County with one in northeastern Wayne County, scored all three of its runs in the top of the seventh in the eight-inning contest.
The MAC used four pitchers over eight innings with Hayley McFarlane of St. Clair pitching the first two innings to get the win. She allowed one hit and faced only seven batters, striking out two.
Katie Murphy (Romeo), Violet Smith (Utica) and Camielle Dawood (Fraser)also share pitching duties with Dawood pitching a 1-2-3 eighth with a pair strikeouts to shut the door on the OAA. Sophia VanDenstorm, one of the MAC’s top pitchers the last four years and a recent graduate of St. Clair Shores Lake Shore, dressed but could not play.

With the bases loaded and two out, it was Lane who drove a three-run triple to deep left-center to give her MAC side a 3-0 lead it would not relinquish. The next batter, Hailey McDonald, ripped an RBI single to give the MAC the four-run cushion and scored Lane for the eventual game-winning run.
In the third, back-to-back doubles by Mackenzie Simon (Grosse Pointe South) and Ashley Davidson (Anchor Bay) ere followed by an RBI single Chloe Dunn (Macomb Dakota) and an RBI groundout by Gianna Peiffer pushed the MAC lead to 6-0.
The MAC – which finished with 23 hits and six walks offensively in the game – erupted for six more runs in the fourth to build the advantage to 12-0. Madisyn Treat (St. Clair) had an RBI single and Hailey McDonald (Anchor Bay), who doubled, later scored off a passed ball for the 8-0 lead. Davidson provided ab RBI single.

Tank Marok of Farmington, who postseason ended in a loss to eventual state champion Walled Lake Northern, earned MVP honors for the OAA. She had a single and also recorded several putouts in the game to keep the MAC from pulling away even further. The Lansing Community College signee played catcher, third base and centerfield this season and spent time all over the field in the all-star game.
“Tank is my nickname so I normally just go by that,” smiled Marok, who humbly accepted the MVP honor for the OAA. “There’s a lot of great players out her, so I am humble myself.

“(When I was playing catcher), I just had to calm my pitcher down and keep the ball in front of me. It was a tough situation,” added the Team MVP.
The OAA only had two senior pitchers that were able to attend and play in the game, which limited the team’s flexibility.
