A San Diego woman has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge after prosecutors said she used her ex-husband’s home security cameras to spy on him and his new family inside their Rancho Peñasquitos home.

Court records show Rayna Bell pleaded guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge of eavesdropping using an electronic device. As part of the plea, Bell will pay restitution to the victims in an amount to be determined at a later hearing, and serve one day in custody, with credit for time served. She will also serve one year probation.

Prosecutors alleged Bell live-streamed more than 700 hours from her ex-husband’s Ring cameras inside his family’s home. According to prosecutors, the recordings captured private medical and financial conversations, as well as moments when family members were undressed.

Acacia Young said she first realized something was wrong when she heard a voice coming from one of the cameras she and her fiancé had installed in their home.

Young said she removed the camera and soon recognized the voice.

“It was his ex-wife’s voice,” said Young.

Young said she later found more than a dozen video clips that contained Bell’s voice.

At first, Bell denied the allegations and referred to them in court paperwork as a “smear campaign.”

After months of legal back and forth, Young said Bell’s guilty plea brings relief to her family.

“Relieved, absolutely relieved, because we’ve been trying to convince everyone, you know, of the truth and now we no longer have to do that. She admitted it herself,” Young said.

Young said the family has struggled to regain a sense of privacy and security, ultimately opting to move into another home and replace their Ring cameras.

“We tried so hard to try to restore the peace, the security, the privacy. Once you are robbed of that, it’s almost impossible to try to restore that in your home,” Young said.

She said the experience continues to affect the family.

“You’re always going to feel like they can do it again, or if they had the opportunity, they would do it again,” Young said.

Young said the family is pursuing additional legal action in civil court.

NBC 7 reached out to Bell and her attorney for comment but had not received a response.
