JP Sears was rock solid on the mound in his first appearance of 2026 for the Padres, doing his part in a 5-2 win that cemented a series sweep of the first place Braves.
Sears made it through 5.2 scoreless innings before giving up a two-run homer to Atlanta catcher Joey Bart. Craig Stammen came out to get the lefty after the homer, ending his day after two earned on five hits and two walks. Sears struck out five and earned the win.
Ty France gave the Padres the lead for good with a 417 foot home run in the third inning. The San Diego State product added a sacrifice fly in the fourth and also doubled.
Xander Bogaerts plated Fernando Tatis Jr. with a bloop single in the fifth inning. Following Bart’s blast, Samad Taylor came through with a two-out, two-run single in the sixth to put the Padres ahead 5-2.
Bogaerts and Taylor both totaled two hits.
The Padres face the Dodgers beginning Friday.
