The Bay Area will host its second to last World Cup match Thursday evening.
Australia and Paraguay will kick off their Group D match from San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara at 7 p.m. The two other teams in Group D – the United States and Türkiye – will play simultaneously in Los Angeles.
The U.S. (6 points) already won the group and will play its Round of 32 knockout match in Santa Clara on July 1 – the final World Cup contest at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.
Australia and Paraguay will battle for second place in the group. Both teams sit on three points entering Thursday’s match, but Australia holds a two-goal edge in goal differential.
The team that finishes third in the group won’t necessarily be eliminated from the tournament. That’s because eight of the 12 third-place finishers advance to the Round of 32.
Türkiye (0 points) has been mathematically eliminated from advancing to the knockout rounds.
