SANGER, Calif. (FOX26) — A family on a ranch near Riverbend and Ashlan Avenues in Sanger helped reunite an escaped bird with its handlers at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo on Friday.
The family found the macaw in a barn on the property around 10:30 a.m.
They heard a strange cry coming from the barn and knew it was not one of their animals.
The bird flew out of the barn and circled a couple of times before landing in a tree.
After realizing the bird might be missing, the family decided to contact the zoo, which reported its military macaw named Sarge went missing on Monday.

They reached the bird’s handler, described what they were seeing, and stayed on the phone to help track the bird’s location.
The ranch is more than half an hour from the Fresno Chaffee Zoo.
While waiting for the handler to arrive, the family was asked to try to feed the bird.
They picked a peach from their tree, skinned it, and fed Sarge pieces by hand.
When the handler arrived, and Searge heard their voice, she began squawking.
The handler walked up to Sarge and took her back to the zoo.
