The Buffalo Sabres on Friday acquired defenseman Olen Zellweger from the Anaheim Ducks for the 45th pick in tonight’s NHL draft and forward prospect Anton Wahlberg.
Zellweger, who turns 23 in September, replenishes depth for the Sabres after they traded Bowen Byram to Chicago earlier in the week. He also needs a new contract as a restricted free agent.
It’s been a busy week for the Sabres, trading Byram, and forwards Jordan Greenway forward Alex Tuch. They also re-signed forward Zach Benson to a seven-year deal.
The Sabres hold picks 4 and 20 in the first round of the draft, being held in Buffalo. Rounds two through seven will be held on Saturday.
