A World Cup loss goes down easier when you have an imported German beer in hand and a plate of baked pork shank and sauerkraut in front of you. That was the scene Thursday at Teske’s Germania in downtown San Jose, when fans gathered to cheer on Germany in a FIFA match-up that had Ecuador prevailing. Germany plays again at 1 p.m. Monday, and the Baumann family, owners of the historic venue, will be ready with the schnitzel and sausages for that match and others. They’re hoping the party will get bigger in the coming weeks, as it did in 2014 when Germany won the whole shebang.
