The UFC will return to Sacramento for the first time in seven years.
Anthony Hernandez takes on Gregory Rodrigues in the Aug. 22 main event, which takes place at Golden 1 Center. A person with knowledge of the event informed MMA Junkie of the news, and the UFC made an official announcement during Saturday’s UFC Fight Nighit 280 broadcast. Sean Cunningham was first to report the news.
Hernandez (15-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) saw his winning streak snapped at the hands of current middleweight champion Sean Strickland at UFC Fight Night 267 in February. Prior to that, the 32-year-old was on an eight-fight winning streak – including wins over Brendan Allen and Roman Dolidze.
Brazil’s Rodrigues (19-6 MMA, 10-3 UFC) comes into the bout having won six of his past seven fights, most recently a Performance of the Night knockout of Brunno Ferreira at UFC 326 in March.
The UFC hasn’t hosted an event in Sacramento since Germaine de Randamie knocked out Aspen Ladd in just 16 seconds at UFC on ESPN+ 13 in July 2019. In the co-main event, Sacramento’s own Urijah Faber scored an upset knockout of Ricky Simon.
