A half dozen antisemitic protesters put their hate on blast Friday shouting foul slurs at Jewish State Senator Scott Wiener, forcing him to leave the San Francisco trans march.
Their reason according to them, for the hateful display was his support of Israel and the genocide that the state of Israel is committing there. They either didn’t know or were willfully ignorant that Senator Weiner recently denounced Israel for committing genocide in Gaza and was ostracized by Bay City Jewish organizations for doing that.
For years, I’ve condemned Netanyahu and his extremist government and the devastation they’ve inflicted on Gaza. It’s why I’ve been clear I won’t support U.S. funding for the destruction of Palestinian communities. I’ve stopped short of calling it genocide, but I can’t anymore. pic.twitter.com/71nIt6K527

Video of Scott Wiener, the San Francisco state senator who is vying to replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress, being confronted at the Trans March on Friday is spreading rapidly online: As Wiener walked through Dolores Park for the kick-off event of Pride weekend, he was accosted by several people calling out his support for Israel, Mission Local reports.
The individuals who harrassed weren’t attending the Trans March and just happened to see him while walking past according to Mission Local.
Dimitry Yakoushkin, the man who filmed the encounter, is a local activist who often confronts officials in public on their stances. He said the protest was spontaneous. “It was not planned, I was walking home, and I saw him from a distance and I got my camera out to start filming.”
Melanie Nathan who spoke at the trans march wrote on facebook “What I witnessed on video went beyond first amendment and political protest. It was a raw, ugly vicious antisemitic assault with screams and hateful disgusting slurs and overt expressions of hate. This is one of several attacks that have occurred against him – in public and involved physical contact.”
“A man who has devoted decades to advancing the rights of transgender people and the broader LGBTQI+ community – was forced to leave the Trans March- an event he has attended each year for over 20 years – for his own safety.”
“San Francisco’s TRANS and broader LGBTQI+ leadership must unequivocally condemn the violence, exclusion, harassment, and intimidation of Jews within our own community. If we cannot stand together against hatred directed at one minority, we fail the values we claim to defend.”
Mr. Wiener told the NYT that he would be filing a police report about the encounter at Dolores Park.
“I’m used to being recorded, but then I could hear there was a group of people — a large number started shouting my name,” Mr. Wiener said. “They were sort of surrounding me, not preventing me from walking, but following along, screaming, saying horrible, vile, false things about my quote-unquote Israeli handlers.”
For his part, Mr. Yakoushkin, a 49-year-old sex and intimacy coach, said that he did not see the episode as harassment, but merely constituents who were engaging with a politician.
“It’s unfortunate that he feels, like, physically intimidated by his constituents,” Mr. Yakoushkin said. “If that’s the case, you should probably look for a different job,” the Times reports.
For the record I condemn this blatant display of antisemitism. Senator Weiner, an outspoken ally, has already condemned Israel for committing genocide, and obviously doesn’t have “handlers”.
We must NOT allow people with ulterior motives who claim to be just “walking past” splinter our movement.
We’ll get straight to the point: The financial hardships that Daily Kos is facing this year are tough.
We continue to be paywall-free. We continue to be supported by our readers, not billionaires or corporations. But we need to bring in more revenue. We are leaning on our community more than ever to help make ends meet.
