Bradgley Rodriguez is back in action.

The 22-year-old right-hander struck out a scoreless inning in Double-A San Antonio’s 5-3 win at Arkansas, Rodriguez’s first game action since June 17.

Rodriguez had a 2.10 ERA in 34⅓ innings to start the year in the majors, striking out 32 batters against 12 walks. He was optioned to the Arizona Complex League to provide a break in his heavy workload and was assigned on Sunday to San Antonio, where he threw eight of his 10 pitches for strikes.

Rodriguez threw a career-high 61⅓ innings in jumping three levels in the minors in 2024, threw 44 ⅓ innings across the minors and majors last year and was on pace to set a new career high after making the Padres’ opening day roster.

How long the Padres keep Rodriguez in the minors will likely hinge a great deal on how much the Padres use their bullpen in this run of 17 straight days with a game heading into the All-Star break.

Right-hander Eric Yost (3-2, 3.48 ERA) walked five in the start but allowed three runs in five innings in the win.

Right-hander Bernard Jose (0.00 ERA) struck out two over two scoreless innings.

Left fielder Jake Cunningham (.826 OPS) hit his second-best 16th homer and first since his promotion to the Texas League. He drove in two runs on two hits.

Third baseman Luis Verdugo (.720 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and first baseman Albert Fabian (.641 OPS) and designated hitter Tirso Ornelas (.799 OPS) each had a double and an RBI.
