California Local Minimum Wage Increases Effective July 1, 2026
Minimum wage rates will increase on July 1 for many of California’s cities and counties. The following cities will see new bumps take effect this week: Alameda, Berkeley, Cupertino, Emeryville, Fremont, Los Angeles (LA County’s rate will also increase), Malibu, Milpitas, Oakland, Pasadena, San Francisco, and Santa Monica. Quick Note on California’s Statewide Minimum Wage Rates
As mentioned in the chart above, California’s statewide minimum wage increased to $16.90 on January 1 (and the exempt salary threshold rose to $70,304, based on a 40-hour work week – learn more here). The state also has separate minimum wage rates for both the fast-food industry and the healthcare industry, and the next round of wage hikes for certain healthcare workers will kick in on July 1. In addition, California lawmakers are considering a bill that would, if enacted, significantly raise the hourly minimum wage for certain agricultural employees.
