Seniors living in central Fresno have a new place to find hot meals and congregate.
The city of Fresno cut the ribbon on the south wing of the Paul “Cap” Caprioglio Community Center on June 26. The 3,000-square-foot space features a kitchen, recreation room and activity space, part of a $1.6 million renovation.
The building is located at 5191 N. 6th Street, blocks away from the Fresno State campus and Valley Children’s Stadium.
Caprioglio, a retired attorney and former city councilmember, 2008-09 and 2013-21, pushed for the center during his time at City Hall. The center, opened in 2023, also includes youth spaces.
“I’m so honored, I’m so humbled. It’s a dream come true,” Caprioglio said during a ceremony for the newly renovated building.
Senior hot meal service will start next month.
“I’m a senior, and I like my meals hot. Can we please get this going, please? And, of course, it came to fruition,” Caprioglio said.
The building includes new office space, and a social hall for programs and activities. Upgrades also the HVAC system and ADA accessibility.
“We really took an important step toward creating a multi-generational space where both youth and seniors could learn, connect, stay active, and really try to build a sense of community,” Mayor Jerry Dyer said.
