Sentencing was handed down Tuesday morning in Oakland County Circuit Court to a New Jersey man who threatened the Bloomfield Township treasurer.
Judge Yasmine Poles ordered Marc Aisen, 50, of Hoboken, New Jersey to spend 365 days in jail — with credit for 931 days served — for using a computer to commit a crime and unlawful posting of messages. The threats were sent via email to Treasurer Michael Schostak, asserting affiliation with Hamas, child sexual exploitation and more.

Aisen underwent a court-ordered forensic evaluation in 2024 and was found to be incompetent but restorable. In 2025, he was determined to be competent for trial. Convicted of the charges at the conclusion of a jury trial in May, he had faced up to four years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine for using a computer to commit a crime, and up to two years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine for unlawful posting of messages.

As previously reported, nearly 200 people received the emails, sent between July and October of 2023, according to the Bloomfield Township Police Department. Police said Schostak initially ignored the emails, but after they escalated and included his family members, friends and colleagues, he filed a complaint.
At the time of his arrest, police said Aisen was a resident of Marblehead, Massachusetts.
