San Diego police were searching Tuesday for a suspect in the Mission Valley riverbed area after a shooting involving officers, the agency said.
The search was being conducted in the riverbed between Pacific Highway and Morena Boulevard, just north of Interstate 8 around 10:30 a.m., San Diego police said in a post on X.
The incident began around 9:45 a.m. after officers made contact with an individual with parole violations, according to a San Diego police spokesperson.
The individual appeared to have a handgun, so at least one officer opened fire, the spokesperson said. It was not clear if the individual fired a weapon or was struck by police gunfire.
No officers were injured.
The individual then fled the scene, prompting a search of the riverbed via ground search, air support and with SWAT officers.
Police urged individuals to avoid the area surrounding the riverbed as officers search for a suspect. California Highway Patrol shut down southbound Interstate 5 to eastbound I-8 for the investigation.
