The couple who stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from the late owner of Sherwood Forest Golf Club is headed to jail.
Fresno County Superior Court Judge Jonathan Conklin sentenced Justin Teel to three years in jail and Gina Abercrombie to one year.
Flashback: A jury found Teel and Abercrombie guilty of stealing more than $700,000 from Randy Hansen, the late owner of Sherwood Forest in May.
Driving the news: Teel and Abercrombie, who had been engaged at one time, stole from Hansen’s estate from 2017 to 2022.
Abercrombie is Hansen’s stepdaughter. She and Teel took control of Hansen’s business affairs after his wife, Deborah Hansen, passed away in 2017.
While Hansen passed away in 2020, Teel and Abercrombie impersonated him and used his name on loan applications.
They each had faced maximum sentences of five years and four months behind bars.
What they’re saying: Hansen’s daughter Stacy told ABC 30 that Abercrombie has threatened her from jail. Abercrombie allegedly said that she will make sure Hansen suffers.
What we’re watching: After she serves her one year in jail, Abercrombie will face five years of probation.
Teel will not remain on probation after he serves his sentence.
Zoom out: Teel has a prior record under the name Justin Linder.
In 2011, he and five others were charged with making illegal real estate deals as part of a fraud scheme that totaled more than $11 million.
