Mexico fans flocked to the streets of Southern California on Tuesday in celebration of the team’s World Cup win against Ecuador.
The Mexican team advanced to the Round of 16 following its 2-0 victory against Ecuador, putting an end to its 40-year drought without a win in the knockout stage. To celebrate, fans crowded the streets of East Los Angeles, Pacoima, Huntington Park, Santa Ana and other communities.
Fans proudly waved Mexican flags, danced in unison and executed its fan tradition of tossing people in the air and catching them while chanting.
At times, illegal fireworks and drivers taking over streets to perform doughnuts were observed. As of Tuesday night, law enforcement has not announced any arrests in connection with the festivities.
What’s next for El Tri? The team is slated to play another home match Sunday against the winner of Wednesday’s match between England and Congo.
