The supply of grapes from California continues to be strong. “The supply is probably the same or maybe up a tad compared to 2024,” says Justin Bedwell of Bari Produce. This follows a season of good growing conditions for grapes in the region–conditions that include a milder summer compared to 2024’s. “We started about the same time as 2024, which is usually right after the 4th of July. With the fairly mild summer, varietal timings are nothing out of the norm,” says Bedwell, adding that it will probably finish harvest in the second week of November and be done shipping by U.S. Thanksgiving. “There are other growers that will ship later than that, but we’ve always tried to pick, pack and ship fruit in a timely fashion.”

The popularity of grapes
Meeting this good supply is also good demand. Grapes generally are a produce item that continues to see strong demand thanks to readily available supply, their portability, and the health benefits associated with them.

What has also helped movement is the pricing seen this year on grapes. While it’s been down so far compared to 2024, that could change. “We have seen upward movement in pricing over the last few weeks and I expect prices to continue to climb as we get further into the season,” says Bedwell. Those stronger prices are welcome to support growers who are balancing increases in input costs with still being able to grow and deliver quality grapes at a consumer-friendly price.
