Crews respond to massive house fire in north Sacramento

Breaking news out of Sacramento. Firefighters are responding to *** trailer fire that has spread to nearby brush. Live Copter 3 is over the area. This is happening on Alamos Drive. This is in between Rio Linda Boulevard and Del Paso Boulevard in the South Hagenwood neighborhood, so you can see those flames shooting up from *** structure we’re told. that this started as *** trailer fire, but as you can see here, those flames are tearing through this entire section of the property. We’ve seen *** boat on fire. You can see what appears to be possibly other vehicles or other items on fire right now, and you can see here that that fire is really putting up some thick dark smoke. The call. Came into this fire just *** short time ago and we are watching this right now from Live Copter 3. The concern here from Metro firefighters is that this is obviously very close to other homes. This is in *** very residential area, so that’s the concern right now. And right behind that smoke just *** second ago we do have *** structure on fire right there, so it does look like this has now spread to that home. Uh, or at least *** garage that is on fire right there. It looks like the windows may be boarded up of that particular structure right there, but if you are pretty much anywhere in Sacramento, you might see this huge plume of smoke. We could show you *** picture side by side from our camera in downtown Sacramento. You can see that huge dark plume of smoke there in the distance, but this is southwest of the Hackenwood golf course. It’s *** part of. Sacramento North Sacramento that is wedged right in between Interstate 80 and Business 80. It’s right in the middle and so this property here, uh, we have *** street address on Alamos and then behind Alamos, uh, looking at this property, there’s *** lot of brush back there. There’s *** trailer, uh, and, uh, looking toward the bottom of your screen, it looks like that might be another trailer that is now catching fire right there. You see that blue tarp on top, uh, and it appears we might have. Another trailer or motor home that has caught fire. We should mention we do have *** crew on the way to the scene right now to get us those pictures from the ground, but again, as you can see, some pretty intense flames there are ripping through this property here. You can see it catching onto the trees. Also, if you look at the ground, you can see that grass in that area is very, very dry. Of course this time of year you really start to see that in neighborhoods. Along with our surrounding region, we know the call came in around 3:41 this afternoon, so they’ve been fighting the fire now for about 20 minutes. Uh, but again we can see the crews on the ground working with hoses trying to get some water on the flames right now, but still seeing those thick black clouds coming from this area and you can see around it, uh, you’ve got cars, you’ve got homes in all directions. So of course, uh, the attack right now is just to make sure that they can contain those flames. And make sure that they don’t spread to any nearby homes. Of course it is the summertime, so people may be home. You may have kids in the neighborhood who are home as well. So if you live in that area, you may want to start thinking about just possibly getting ready to evacuate as *** precaution in case those flames start to spread. But again, very close to several homes right now. You see the firefighters there pulling the hose, trying to get some water on there, and we watched this as soon as Lifecockter 3 launched this afternoon. It spotted the smoke and so we watched this really explode and kick up that dark smoke over the skyline and we rapidly got overhead and it took *** few minutes for the firefighters to get on scene. You’re seeing that white smoke there usually that’s indicating that they got some water on that part of the fire and so they’re working to get the fire out, but you see right there several areas of this property where we have active flame. We know at least one structure is burning. It appears that we had *** first trailer that burnt. Burned and now that second trailer with that blue tarp, it appears that is on fire and the big threat right now is all those additional structures, garages, and cars all throughout that area. These firefighters right now really working to contain this so it does not move on into those other properties. No reports of any injuries at this point, but of course the damage here we can see some damage. No idea right now what the scope of that damage is so far, but we should. Mention just before we went on air we were speaking with meteorologist Dirk Verdoni. He said right now winds are not *** factor right now, so that is the good news, of course the conditions are very dry there on the ground. You can see the trees are green, but the brush and the grass there are completely dry there, so something that they have to take into account when they’re working on *** fire like this. So you can see from the street there at the top of the screen as well as to the left of the screen. I mean firefighters are. They’re on the road, you see they have hoses that are pulled. It was quite *** stretch to get onto this property through the sides of those homes and into the backyard where this fire is burning right now. At this point we are not hearing anything officially of evacuations, but as you can imagine, anybody who’s in this vicinity. You don’t want to be there right now as firefighters are working to get containment on this, but you can see right there that firefighter we saw, bringing that hose on has now managed to get fire that they’re shooting up over that trailer and it looks like we have smoke pouring through the roof of that trailer right there. And so that is most likely going to be *** loss. And then as we move to the right, Live Copter 3 is giving us *** picture of what appears to be another structure or *** bird pile there toward the bottom of your screen that is kicking up *** lot. Oh, that might be the boat. Yeah, we were seeing that boat, you know, burning before we went on air, and you can see that is, you know, just one of the other items that are there on this property that, as you can imagine right now, complete loss. But again, if you’re just tuning in with. Right now we’re covering breaking news. Firefighters responding to *** trailer fire that started. This was um in the area of Alamos Avenue. This is just off of Rio Linda Boulevard in the South Hagenwood neighborhood. So if you live in that area and you’re seeing that smoke, this is *** structure fire, *** trailer fire. That’s how it started right now, and we’ve seen the flames spreading to what looks like possibly *** home on that property, but still kind of hard to tell because of the smoke that we’re seeing. Still seeing some active flames there as well. And just to give you some of the streets right around here, I know that the smoke appears to be dissipating, which is *** good thing, but we also have pulled up *** Google Earth View just to show you that this is in the middle of *** neighborhood where we do have *** lot of homes all throughout the area, and you can’t see in between those homes we do have *** lot of green brush, and that’s what is easily able to catch fire. But the streets all around us, it’s Alamosa Avenue, but to the east we’re talking about Belden Street to the. West we’re talking about Brand Street and to the north we’re talking about Acacia Avenue. So, the good news here, look at that white smoke. It appears firefighters are making some good progress as we watch them get water on these flames. We do have Anahita Jafari on the way to the scene right now, and she’ll be working to get us some live pictures there from the ground and get some more information from possibly firefighters or people who live in that area. So still working on getting *** report from her, but again, as we can see. He looks like this property has *** lot of items on it, *** lot of stuff in the yard there. Um, at this point we did see some flames coming from what appears to be possibly inside of that structure, um, and so yeah, you can see *** burned out kind of shell of *** structure or *** home there. Firefighters working to put the flames out. No word yet on if there are any injuries, no reports of any injuries yet. Still waiting to hear on that, but we are asking those questions and working to get more details. and that structure right there is pretty much gone. No longer has *** roof. Uh, it appears this is destroyed, uh, but firefighters are kicking that water onto it at this point. So we’re still trying to figure out is this *** home? Is it some sort of *** garage or outbuilding? Uh, we don’t know that at this point, but you can see in this particular area we do have quite *** few structures that seem to be next to each other. It seems that the address is Alamos Avenue, but as I look at some pictures here. Screen from *** satellite view, it appears that we have several structures that just back up all throughout this property. It looks like 12345, possibly 6 buildings that are all right here in this vicinity where this property is. And so as the smoke clears, we’re going to be able to see just how much devastation there is. Yeah, we do want to mention, of course, we are starting to see more of that white smoke. When we got on air just about 8 minutes ago, the smoke was very dark, very thick. It was really hard to see, but we have seen. Some items on that property on fire. If you look there in the middle of your screen, you can see *** boat there that caught fire. It looks like another trailer there on the top left of your screen with the blue tarp on top. Also caught fire. You can see the burn scar. You can see that area of the, uh, of the fire there, and you can see that dark portion of the ground there. And then just to the left you can see just how dry the conditions were. The grass there and the brush just really, really dry at this point. Uh, so again, no reports of any. Injuries, but again, if you live in that area, you do want to be careful. You do want to pay attention to what’s going on. Of course you’re hearing *** lot of activity, seeing *** lot of smoke. It looks like right now the flames aren’t as aggressive as they were about 10 minutes ago, and we could see them shooting out from the top of the property there, but still definitely an active firefight right now as they work to put out any remaining hot spots or big sections of those flames. And if we take this picture here from downtown Sacramento, you can see the smoke really heavy. Dissipated. It was an intense dark smoke when we first launched Live copter 3, about half an hour 35 minutes ago, and you can see that smoke is dissipating right now, which shows the progress firefighters are making. And as we take the pictures full right here and as the smoke clears, we’ll have *** better idea of what has burned, uh, but I can’t tell you off screen I have been comparing these pictures with *** satellite view that was taken this year. And while we don’t know for sure exactly what is on the property here today from *** satellite view. It looks like we have *** lot of cars on this property. 12345678, possibly 9 cars. We have *** couple of trailers and so there was *** lot of fuel on this particular property that could burn this afternoon. Yeah, you can see the firefighters working to put those flames out. Looks like in this portion at least of the property they’ve done *** pretty good job. You can see the smoke still in. Issue, but definitely turning from that black smoke to more of the white smoke there. So that’s usually *** good indicator that they are getting the upper hand on this fire, still working to put out those hot spots. We’re continuing to watch this fire on Alamos Avenue in Sacramento in the South Hagenwood neighborhood. We’ll continue to bring you those live pictures after the break.
