A 30-year-old Eastpointe woman was killed Wednesday night in Hazel Park when she was hit by a car while crossing a street, police said.

According to Police Chief William Hamel, surveillance video shows the woman was crossing Eight Mile Road at John R, against the red light, shortly before 11 p.m. when she was struck by a 2019 Ford Fusion traveling westbound on Eight Mile Road.

The woman was in a crosswalk in the far left lane of the roadway when hit by the Fusion, which had a green light, Hamel said.

She died at the scene.

The driver, a 27-year-old Centerline man, stopped after the woman was hit, checked on her and called police, Hamel said. He was cooperative at the scene, and no alcohol or drug use was detected from him, Hamel said.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the crash investigation.
