BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who was killed while riding a bike as 66-year-old Gabriel Lopez Ortiz of Bakersfield.

The report said that on June 20, 2026, at around 12:53 a.m., Ortiz was struck by a truck at Calloway Drive and Stockdale Highway.
Gabriel Lopez Ortiz was transported to Kern Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

The 35-year-old driver, Tamera Elsie Popoy, who allegedly drove under the influence, is now charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
