City government offices in San Diego will be closed Friday in observance of the Fourth of July, which falls on Saturday, and most services will be unavailable.
Here is what to know:
What will be closed?
The following city facilities will be closed July 3 and 4:
County public health clinics
County family resource centers
All libraries will be closed on Friday and Saturday
Fallbrook Community Center
Lakeside Community and Teen Center
Spring Valley Community Center
Spring Valley Gymnasium and Teen Center
4S Ranch Recreation Office (all parks remain open)
Valley Center Community Hall
Tecolote Canyon Nature Center
The Household Hazardous Waste Transfer Facility
Public buildings in Balboa Park, including the Municipal Gym, Morley Field and Balboa Park Activity Center
The following city facilities will be closed July 3 but open on July 4:
County animal shelters
Barrett, El Capitan, Hodges, Lower and Upper Otay Reservoirs will be closed on Friday. All other City reservoirs will be open during regular operating hours.
Tecolote Canyon Natural Park
Some city pools will be closed on Friday, July 3, and will reopen on their typical schedule starting Saturday, July 4.
The following swimming pools will be open with holiday hours from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m,:
Friday, July 3: Allied Gardens, Bud Kearns, Carmel Mountain and Memorial.
Saturday, July 4: Bud Kearns, City Heights, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ned Baumer Aquatic Center and Swanson.
What will stay open?
The following city facilities will be open:
County parks, campgrounds and neighborhood day‑use parks
Chollas Lake, if weather permits
All golf courses will be open until dusk on Friday, July 3. Weekday rates will apply. The Mission Bay Golf Course driving range will remain open until 9:30 p.m.
Mission Trails Regional Park and Visitor Center
City skate parks and the Pacific Highlands Ranch Pump Track at 5977 Village Center Loop Road.
Other closures are:
Parks and Recreation Department Open Space, Permit Center and Maintenance Assessment District offices;
Development Services Department in-person services;
Personnel Department’s Testing and Fingerprinting offices;
Your Safe Place — A Family Justice Center.
Those needing help related to domestic violence may call the Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-888-385-4657. People who are in immediate danger or experiencing a medical emergency should dial 911.
Parking
The city will not enforce parking meters on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4, time restrictions for street parking, yellow zones, or posted street-sweeping routes within its jurisdiction. It will enforce other parking violations, and rules for Port of San Diego property or other cities may vary.
There will be no street sweeping on Friday, July 3.
Trash
The city’s Environmental Services Department will collect curbside trash, recyclables and organic waste on Friday.
The Miramar Landfill, Greenery, Recycling Center, and Mattress Collection Site will be open on July 3 but will be closed on Saturday, July 4.
Thousands of people are expected to attend the Big Bay Boom, billed as California’s largest fireworks show, which starts at 9 p.m. Saturday on the San Diego Bay.
Because parking along the Bay is expected to fill up quickly — and a sewer main project is impacting travel along Harbor Drive — visitors should plan ahead, officials said.
