BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The former Cal State Bakersfield assistant basketball coach accused of pimping and possessing child pornography, illegal guns and drugs has taken a plea deal.
Kevin Mays pleaded no contest to charges of pimping, drug possession while armed and possessing child pornography Wednesday.
The conditions of the plea sees Mays spending four years in prison, however, he will receive credit for time already served in jail. He will also become a registered sex offender for life.
Mays simply replied to Judge Judith Dulcich with “Yes ma’am” to questions if he understood his pleas. In March, Mays was ordered to trial on 11 counts, including possessing an assault rifle, possessing a large capacity magazine and possessing controlled substance for sale.

It’s alleged Mays collected money from a sex worker, reposted her sex ads and encouraged her to get “dates.” The woman told investigators she sent Mays her earnings and that she called him her boyfriend.
Authorities said an examination of Mays’ cell phone revealed multiple files containing child pornography. Guns and drugs were also found in his vehicle and home.
Mays, a CSUB graduate and former basketball player, turned assistant coach, is expected to serve four years in prison. He’s spent almost 10 months in jail already.
The remaining drug and weapons charges were dismissed along with one other count of child pornography.
After Mays was arrested, CSUB fired him as assistant coach.
Mays’ attorney David Torres declined to comment after the hearing. Prosecutor Christine Antonios has not replied to our questions as of Thursday morning.
