250 years! What a run it has been! Our nation is celebrating this quarter of a millennium birthday, and I’m sure it’ll be fun for all. Still, I can’t help but hearken back with smiles to the summer of 1976 and that whole era. I was not even 10 years old during America’s Bicentennial, but it left an indelible imprint upon my mind and heart; I will never forget it!
Everywhere I looked, with admittedly young eyes, our country nevertheless seemed to express exuberance and excitement in marking the occasion. Parades, community celebrations, patriotic music, seemingly endless displays of red, white and blue…. It felt as though every family, regardless of politics or background, shared the excitement of celebrating America’s 200th birthday, 50 years ago…where did the time go?
