The San Francisco 49ers entered this offseason with some questions along their offensive line, as they lost a few players and had to figure out Trent Williams’ contract to keep him around.
Over the last few months, they’ve given Williams an extension and brought in Robert Jones, Brett Toth, Zach Thomas, Carver Willis and Enrique Cruz to compete for starter and backup spots in the group.
With a few weeks to go before training camp, the 49ers still have plenty of cap space and could bring in another veteran to make the competition that much tougher.
On Thursday, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton identified the 49ers as potential suitors for free agent offensive lineman Brady Christensen.
Christensen, 29, played at BYU from 2017-20, earning All-American honors in his final season before the Carolina Panthers took him in the third round (No. 70 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft.
Over the last five years, he’s started 34 games and played in 59 for the Panthers, taking snaps at all five spots. However, he’s primarily played left guard, where the 49ers are looking for someone to step up and claim the starting spot in training camp.
Christensen tore his Achilles last October, and he’s yet to be cleared to return to the field, but if he’s ready to go in a few weeks, he’d be a solid option with starting experience for the 49ers to consider alongside Willis, Jones and 2025 seventh-round pick Connor Colby.
