BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man accused of shooting a 19-year-old near the Kern County Fairgrounds last September will not stand trial until nearly a year after the incident, which was linked to a marijuana deal that went wrong, according to court documents.

Thomas Anderson was found competent to stand trial in January. The man sustained injuries that required multiple surgeries, according to the documents.
Anderson pleaded not guilty last September.
Court documents revealed that Anderson is a member of the West Side Crips, specifically the “Turcgunna” subset.

The victim reported that he was shot in the neck and torso while driving away from the deal. Anderson claimed that he was nervous and high, which led him to pull the trigger, court documents said. He allegedly told the victim, “Give me everything you got.”
The man told police that a bullet entered the left side of his neck, went through one of his lungs, and exited his right side, court documents show.
The incident dates back to Sept. 22, 2025, when it happened in the 1100 block of Terrace Way, when a man was found with multiple gunshot injuries.
The injured man managed to drive himself to the 700 block of South P Street, where bystanders found him and called 9-1-1.
Officers arrived shortly after 10 p.m. and discovered the man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Anderson was arrested three days later by the Special Enforcement Unit and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team in the 700 block of Decatur Street.
