Kavares Tears continues to assert himself as a power-hitting prospect.

The 23-year-old Tears hit his 12th homer and a game-tying single in high Single-A Fort Wayne’s 13-12 win over Great Lakes in 14 innings on Saturday.

Tears’ fourth RBI of the game was a game-tying single in the 14th inning. He also walked twice and is hitting .241/.351/.523.

A fourth-round pick in 2024, Tears hit 20 homers that year in helping Tennessee win a College World Series. He hit 13 last year at low Single-A Lake Elsinore (.705 OPS) and has 12 through 58 games to start the year in the Midwest League.

First baseman Jack Costello (.754 OPS) hit his ninth homer and designated hitter Luke Cantwell (.865 OPS) and third baseman Kerrington Cross (.858 OPS) both hit their second homers.

Cantwell drove in three runs and Cross drove in two.

Center fielder Ryan Wideman (.662 OPS) went 3-for-6 with a walk.

Fort Wayne is 34-46.

Four Sacramento errors led to four unearned runs. 3B Luis Rengifo (.919 OPS) went 0-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs cored.

RF Braedon Karpathios (.707 OPS) went 2-for-4 with his seventh homer. 1B Albert Fabian (.691 OPS) drove in two runs on two hits, including his first triple. C Ethan Salas (.777 OPS) went 1-for-4 with an RBI. RHP Francis Pena (3.15 ERA) struck out three over three scoreless innings in the start.

 

LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (43-37)

Storm 11, Stockton 1: RHP Tyler Schmitt (5-4, 4.62 ERA) struck out six and allowed one run in five innings in the win. RHP Jeferson Villabona (0.96 ERA) struck out three over three scoreless innings. CF Conner Westenburg (.745 OPS) doubled twice and drove in five runs. He also swiped his 33rd base.

 

ROOKIE ACL PADRES (26-20)

Padres 5, Dodgers 4 (7): 1B Colton Vincent (1.500 OPS) and C Jhojan Downer (.763 OPS) both drove in two runs on two hits. Vincent doubled. DH Santiago Contreras (.638 OPS) and LF Eddson Martinez (1.121 OPS) both had a triple.
