One person was killed and three others were hurt following a fireworks explosion that set fire to a nearby vehicle following an Independence Day celebration in Chino.
The explosion was reported as a vehicle fire at about 8:30 p.m. on the 5600 block of D Street, according to the city. There, a vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and officers tended to the group of people who were hurt.
A total of four people, including a minor, were taken to the hospital after the explosion. A woman in her 20s, whose identity is being withheld for now, died of her injuries, according to the city.
Two other adults who were hurt suffered serious injuries but are expected to survive. The minor was hospitalized for evaluation and has since been released.
“Out of nowhere, just the biggest explosion I’d ever heard in my entire life. Shook the entire ground,” said Gabriel Gilmore, who witnessed the incident.
Based on the investigation so far, investigators believe a large number of fireworks had ignited, which caused the explosion.
