Deputies responded Sunday to report of a man in West Hollywood with a rocket-propelled grenade that authorities later determined was a replica.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received 911 calls at about 2 a.m. Sunday about someone with a RPG on Sunset Boulevard, the agency told NBC4 Investigates. Deputies responded to the 9000 block of Sunset Boulevard between San Vicente Boulevard and Doheny Drive and found a man with the item that prompted the emergency calls.

The man told deputies that another man had asked to see it and was walking around showing it to people, the LASD said. Deputies at the scene determined the object was a non-working replica RPG.

The man who had been displaying the replica RPG left the scene before deputies arrived. Deputies took a misdemeanor report of brandishing a replica firearm.

No arrests were reported.
