An Escondido man was arrested on suspicion of murder after two people were found dead inside a Ramona home in a military housing community, authorities said Tuesday.
Ryan Proffitt, 33, was arrested on two counts of murder Monday evening in connection with the deadly shooting at the Ramona Vista housing complex, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies first responded to the complex, which is managed by Liberty Military Housing, for a reported shooting around 8:45 a.m. Monday, SDSO said. Upon arrival, Proffitt was at the steps of the residence and was detained.
Inside the home, deputies discovered a man and woman suffering from significant traumatic injuries. Paramedics arrived shortly afterward, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, SDSO said.
Their identities are being withheld pending confirmation and notification of their families.
Proffitt was booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
The motive and circumstances surrounding the killings were under investigation. Investigators said the killings appeared to be an isolated incident and there was no ongoing threat to the community.
Authorities urged anyone with information about the case to contact the sheriff’s Homicide Unit at 858-285-6330, or 858-868-3200 after-hours. Anonymous tips can be made to San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
