Oakland County Restaurant Quest: Joe’s Grill Mediterranean in Royal Oak
(Crystal A. Proxmire, July 7, 2026)
Royal Oak, MI – The quest to try every restaurant in Oakland County continues with a visit to Joe’s Grill – Mediterranean American Cuisine in Downtown Royal Oak.
A friend and I recently enjoyed lunch on the restaurant’s patio. He had the chicken shawarma lunch with rice, hummus, pita, and garlic sauce. The marinated shreds of chicken mixed with the sides for a delightful traditional meal, which my friend paired with a water infused with ginger, cucumber and mint leaves.
I had the chicken kebab featuring two skewers of tender grilled chicken on a bed of rice with tabouleh and hummus. The thick pieces of chicken were perfectly cooked, with a golden grilled outside and pull-apart softness in the middle. I also indulged in a pina colada smoothie with the tropical flavors of pineapple and coconut.
We split an order of baklava for dessert, made with flaky filo layers stuffed with nuts, and sweetened syrup.
Joe’s Grill features an array of traditional dishes, including Kfata kebab, crushed lentil or lemon rice soup, fattoush, grilled lamb chops, kibbeh balls and more. They also have American items like chicken tenders, cheese sticks, and burgers done a few different ways.
The location on the corner of Washington and Lincoln, with parking in back plus on street parking in front, makes for easy pick up of carryout orders. There is also a small patio and a couple small tables for those who want to dine in. But it’s primarily a to go spot. The address is 732 S. Washington, and there is also a location in Troy.
