LEESBURG, Va. (Voices of Agriculture) — As the nation recently celebrated its 250th anniversary, Oakland Green Farm is reminding visitors that agriculture has been part of America’s story from the very beginning.

The land has been farmed for nearly 300 years, predating the nation itself. Farm owner Sara Brown said she views herself as a caretaker rather than an owner, carrying on a legacy that began when her ancestors settled the property in the 1700s.

Brown said sustainability has been essential to the farm’s longevity, adding that caring for the soil and water is important for both farmers and consumers.
