FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Six people were displaced on Monday after an apartment fire near Fresno State.

The Fresno Fire Department says firefighters rushed to an apartment complex near Fresno State shortly after 12:45 a.m. on Monday after multiple callers reported a fire.

The apartment complex fire was near N Maple and Shaw Avenues in Fresno.

The first arriving engine company found smoke and flames coming from a first-floor apartment in a two-story, eight-unit building.

The fire had already extended to the second floor.

Reports were unclear about whether anyone was still inside.

Crews requested a second alarm and immediately began rescue and fire attack operations.

Firefighters searched the involved apartments and confirmed no one was trapped.

Crews then worked to contain the fire and stop it from spreading further through the building.

Three of the building’s eight apartment units were damaged, displacing six people.

In all, 45 firefighters responded.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
