Sacramento State’s men’s basketball team is going to have a disproportionate number of eyes on it this season.

The Hornets are coached by former NBA star Mike Bibby, and they feature big names like Mikey Williams and Shaqir O’Neal, with Shaquille O’Neal as their general manager.
Sac State opened the season on Tuesday night, and while the night ended in a win, it was far from perfect.
The Hornets found themselves in a close game before pulling away late to beat Division II Dominican University of California, 103-79.
Williams, the long-time social media star and former top recruit, had an inefficient night at just 3-for-11 from the floor. He finished with 10 points and did dish out six assists.
Shaqir O’Neal (Shaq’s son) also started and played 20 minutes but managed just four points and one rebound in that time.

The star of the night was guard Prophet Johnson, a transfer from Fairfield. He put up 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
And off the bench, Utah transfer Jayden Teat poured in 21 points of his own.
Sacramento State is back home on Friday to take on another non-D1 opponent in Jessup.
Right now, the Hornets are the No. 268 ranked team in the country by the KenPom analytics website.
