Competitors are getting their swimming gear, bicycles, and running shoes ready for the annual Long Beach Triathlon later this month.
Supertri Long Beach – formerly known as the Long Beach Legacy Triathlon – returns to the waterfront on Sunday, July 19, for a fun, fast, beginner-friendly race that also helps raise money for pediatric cancer research.
This year, the triathlon will be celebrating a milestone as fundraising for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles surpasses $20 million raised since 2007, according to a press release. The celebration also coincides with CHLA’s 125th anniversary.
Designed with accessibility in mind and built to inspire the competitor in everyone, the Supertri Long Beach places a strong emphasis on welcoming first-time participants into the sport and seasoned competitors, organizers said.
The course begins with a swim in Alamitos Bay, followed by a bike ride along Shoreline Drive, and finishes with a run past landmarks like the Rainbow Harbor and the Queen Mary.
“Supertri Long Beach represents everything Supertri stands for: accessibility, community and pushing the boundaries of what the sport can be,” Michael D’hulst, CEO and co-founder of Supertri, the event’s organizer, said in a statement. “We have seen incredible momentum in Long Beach, not only in participation but in the ways the community and corporate teams rally together toward a shared cause.
“As we look to this year’s event, we are really focused on expanding opportunities for new athletes,” D’hulst added, “elevating the race experience, and continuing to build a weekend that inspires friends, families, corporate teams, and competitors of every level.”

The triathlon includes a sprint distance race, with a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike ride, and 5-kilometer run for individuals, relay, and corporate competitors. There is also an Olympic distance race, which includes a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride, and a 10-kilometer run.
Young athletes ages eight to 15 can also take part in a swim-run challenge with the Splash & Dash Youth Race, which will take place a day prior, on Saturday, July 18. Kids ages six to 10 can participate in a 100-meter swim and 1-kilometer run, while those ages 11 to 15 can participate in a 200-meter swim and 1.2-kilometer run.
One of the major things Supertri is doing to make triathlons more accessible is offering its free First Timers Program, which includes a beginner-friendly TriDot training plan, live expert-led webinars, and access to a supportive online community, according to a press release.
On race weekend, first-time athletes can also join a beginner-friendly swim wave, use a rack-together transition area, and connect with coaches and event staff, including an “Ask a Coach” booth to build confidence and ensure a positive introduction to the sport, organizers said. Athletes can also compete individually or as part of a relay team, allowing another approachable entry point into the sport.
Supertri Long Beach will also serve as one of the two host venues for the 2026 USA Paratriathlon Nationals Qualifier Series, offering aspiring elite paratriathletes the opportunity to compete on July 19 as part of a blockbuster coast-to-coast racing weekend, according to a press release.
This year’s race is seeing strong momentum in the community, organizers said, with registrations up 30% over last year and on track to sell out ahead of the event.
The 2026 event marks a milestone for both the race and its charitable impact. This year represents the 20th year of the Corporate Challenge, a signature fundraising initiative that unites leading companies and local organizations in support of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. It also coincides with CHLA’s 125th anniversary, underscoring more than a century of life-changing pediatric care, according to a press release.
“The Supertri Long Beach is a vital fundraiser supporting pediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles,” Dr. James Amatruda, director of the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute at CHLA, said in a statement. “It is a privilege to participate in this event alongside so many dedicated individuals whose commitment is driving progress in pediatric cancer research and bringing hope and improved therapies to children and families.”
Once again, organizers have set a goal to raise over $600,000 to support CHLA’s work and help kids fight cancer. Last year, the event generated $715,000 and set the stage for this year’s Supertri Long Beach.
