LONG BEACH, Calif. — A street vendor who sells ice cream and snacks in Long Beach said someone attacked him on the Fourth of July at the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier.
Eliu Ramirez said he was punched and now has several fractures to his face.
He has met with police and said he’s hoping they can find the man who attacked him. Eliu said the attacker told him he was sent by someone who was identified as “El dueño del la playa” or “the owner of the beach”.
The Long Beach Police Department sent over this statement via email about the investigation:
“On July 4, 2026, at approximately 7:56 p.m. officers responded to the 100 block of 39th Place regarding a battery. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male adult victim with injuries to the upper body. The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was working as a street vendor when a male adult suspect approached the victim and assaulted him. The victim was treated on the scene by Long Beach Lifeguard Personnel and declined transportation to a local hospital. The investigation to identify and arrest the suspect remains ongoing. The investigation is ongoing.”
