LONG BEACH — A 38-year-old Vancleave man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Neville Conner, the Long Beach Police Department said.

Hallis Wayne Russ Jr. was arrested about 1 a.m. July 3 and charged with one count of murder, according to a news release. He was located and taken into custody at an address near Pat Eubanks Road in George County.

Russ was taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held on a $1 million bond set by Justice Court Judge Lyons, police said. He remains jailed pending further court action.

The charge stems from an investigation into a shooting that killed Conner, police said. The release did not detail where or when the shooting happened, a possible motive, or any relationship between the two men.

Assisting in the investigation were the Harrison County, Jackson County and George County sheriff’s offices, the Jackson County Emergency Services Unit and the Mississippi Department of Homeland Security, according to the release.
