FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — For the team at Oakwood Gardens Care Center, few moments are more rewarding than watching a resident walk out of the building after a successful recovery.
For Francisco Rivera, that milestone carried special weight.
Over the past 18 months, Rivera underwent two below-knee amputations, a medical ordeal that included near-fatal complications and several hospitalizations.
After both surgeries, he completed rehabilitation at Oakwood Gardens Care Center, committing to what staff described as a grueling regimen as he worked to adjust to life with two prosthetic legs.
On Friday, Rivera officially completed his stay and walked out of the building on his prosthetic legs after being discharged to return home.
