Don’t let fraudsters outsmart you—learn how to fight back with confidence at the 2026 Scam Jam Tour. On Tuesday, July 28, at 10 a.m., Del Mar Community Connections (DMCC) will host its second-annual interactive fraud-prevention session at Del Mar Town Hall (1050 Camino Del Mar).
This vital event features leading fraud experts Tiffany Zhang from AARP’s Fraud Watch Network, and Jonathan Tague from the San Diego County Scam Prevention and Education Team. Rather than just listing common red flags, Zhang and Tague will expose the sophisticated psychological tricks and manipulation tactics criminals use to exploit older adults, equipping attendees with the exact tools needed to spot and halt scams in their tracks. Those who attend will learn to recognize and resist today’s most common scams by drawing on insights from AARP’s Con Artist’s Playbook. Experts will break down how scammers think, the psychological tactics they use to create urgency and trust, and practical steps to protect yourself and loved ones. Through real-life examples, participants will build their own fraud-prevention toolkit and understand where to turn for recovery, reporting, and ongoing support—empowering them to fight back with confidence, the news release stated.
Zhang is a community engagement and outreach manager at AARP California, based in San Diego. She brings a diverse background in community health, including digital marketing, public health management, volunteer engagement, and community partnerships. She leads regional outreach efforts focused on fraud prevention, financial security, caregiving, brain health, and livable communities. She holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral neuroscience from the University of San Diego and a master’s degree in public health from San Diego State University.
Tague is an outreach & education specialist at Aging & Independence Services, a department of the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency. He has a diverse background in the field of aging, including case management, dementia care, community engagement, volunteer services, and LGBTQ+ aging. He holds a master’s degree in dementia & aging studies from Texas State University.
