DALY CITY — Fire crews on Friday rescued a paraglider after he crashed into a cliff face in Daly City, authorities said.
The incident happened around 6:50 p.m. at Mussel Rock Park, according to the North County Fire Authority.
The paraglider — identified as a 59-year-old man — collided with the cliff face and came to rest on the side of the cliff roughly 400 feet below the edge, authorities said.
He suffered injuries in the crash and required a technical rescue, according to the fire authority.
Once rescued, the man was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, authorities said.
No firefighters or other emergency responders were injured while rescuing the man.
Mussel Rock Park is one of the most popular paragliding sites in Northern California. Built on a landfill that operated from 1957 to 1978, the site now offers breathtaking views of the ocean, the cliffs and the city of San Francisco when the day is clear.
