BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A new planned development in northwest Bakersfield has the community buzzing with excitement amid discussions of potential stores and restaurants, but all tenants — except two — are still shrouded in mystery.

The Riverview Marketplace is set to be over 46 acres in the southwest corner of Rosedale Highway and Coffee Road.

It will be anchored by Whole Foods and include over 375,000 square feet of retail space, according to developers. Residents can look forward to more shopping and dining services in the development.

The development is also set to include more than 1,750 parking spaces.

Recent news reports said renderings of the development include a Cheesecake Factory, but developers said there is no agreement with the national food chain for this Bakersfield development.

Whole Foods and McDonald’s are the only two tenants that have signed leases to come to the Riverview Marketplace, according to DJM Capital Partners, the developers of the project.

At the same time, they denied reports of Cheesecake Factory at the marketplace at this time, saying “the conceptual renderings … are just that — conceptual.”

“While we would love to bring Cheesecake Factory and other top brands to Bakersfield, we do not have an agreement to do so at this time, with the exception of Whole Foods and McDonalds,” officials said.

DJM Capital Partners said they are communicating and negotiating with many more national, regional and local tenants to fill up the spots in the center.

A spokesperson with The Cheesecake Factory also told 17 News the restaurant is not heading to northwest Bakersfield at this time.

“Our restaurant development team is always on the lookout for premier sites to further grow The Cheesecake Factory brand presence, and all sites that fit our criteria for success will be seriously considered,” Alethea Rowe, the senior director of Public Relations & Global Branding at The Cheesecake Factory, said in a statement.

Developers are aiming to break ground later this year and complete construction by early 2028, according to DJM spokesperson Tracy Leach. The grand opening would be held immediately after.

The Bakersfield Planning Commission and City Council will be asked to consider the project for approval this fall, Leach said.
