An “armed and dangerous” suspect was fatally shot by Oakland police after he lunged at officers with a knife, officials said.
The police shooting was reported 2 p.m. Monday at a shopping center parking lot in the area of 40th Avenue and International Boulevard.
“Officers attempted to deescalate the situation by giving commands. The suspect refused,” Beere said at a news briefing following the shooting. “At which point the subject attacked the officers, causing the officers to use less lethal and lethal force.”
The suspect succumbed to their injuries at the scene and the two officers involved in the shooting were not injured, Beere said.
