A live bee removal took an unexpected turn after elithebeeguy uncovered a huge honey bee colony hidden inside the base of a bathroom cabinet.The removal, carried out in Ontario, California, USA, began with an inspection using a thermal camera, which revealed bees entering the home through a narrow gap between the chimney and the exterior wall.After opening the cabinet structure, the rescuer discovered an extensive network of honeycomb filled with honey, brood, fresh eggs and developing bees.Working carefully through the tight space, he removed sections of honeycomb while preserving the brood so the colony could be safely relocated rather than exterminated.The rescue also uncovered a queen cup, suggesting the colony may have been preparing to swarm and establish a second hive.Once the hive had been removed, the brood box was placed outside near the original entrance, allowing the remaining worker bees to locate and settle into their new home before the area could be cleaned and sealed to prevent future infestations.
