More Information
Daytime Realness 15th Anniversary: 2-8 p.m. Sunday, July 19. $25, must be 21 or older. El Rio, 3158 Mission St., S.F. www.elriosf.com
Long before drag brunches became the norm, Daytime Realness debuted at El Rio on July 17, 2011, as a party bringing drag and nightlife culture out into the sunlight. A hit from the start, the event has grown into a San Francisco institution, with DJ sets and drag shows taking over El Rio’s patio on the third Sunday of each month from spring through fall.
Daytime Realness was created by three queer nightlife producers, the late drag icon Heklina; DJ Carnita, aka Tom Temprano of the party Hard French; and DJ Stanley Frank Sensation. It has since served as a haven for a diverse cross section of San Francisco’s queer communities both onstage and in the crowd.
On Sunday, June 19, the founders/DJs will be joined by guest hosts Per Sia, San Francisco’s current Drag Laureate, and performer Yves Saint Croissant. Special guest DJs include Charles Hawthorne and Bay B Sol, with drag performances by Beef Cakes, Glamputee, Translucent, Bettyie Jayne and Hennessy Williams.
