Long Beach short-term rental committee presents policy recommendations to mayor, aldermen

  • July 16, 2026

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) — The Long Beach Mayor and Board of Aldermen heard from a short-term rental committee Tuesday during a work session focused on the city’s policies and ordinances governing the industry.

The committee was tasked with analyzing several issues, including how to address rentals operating illegally and whether to require yearly safety inspections.

Members also considered whether the city should place a cap on the number of short-term rentals allowed to operate.

Mayor Tim Pierce said a cap is not an immediate concern.

“Right now, it’s really not a problem to solve, but that was one of the issues they wanted to look at,” Pierce said. “Do we want to lessen the numbers? But right now, that’s not an issue that we’re seeing. So, that will be addressed. We’ll look at it, see what we can do, we may put some limits, but as of right now, there is really no issue to solve.”

Pierce said short-term rentals serve a role in the local economy by providing lodging for tourists attending large events and encouraging spending in the city.
