Water Restrictions in Auburn Hills, Oakland Township, Orion Township, and Rochester Hills

Oakland County, MI – A water pump station failure has impacted water service in northern Oakland County. As of now four municipalities are impacted: Auburn Hills, Oakland Township, Orion Township, and Rochester Hills. Each has their own conditions. Below are updates from each.
Auburn Hills
Effective immediately, the City of Auburn Hills Department of Public Works (DPW) is issuing a MANDATORY water restriction for the entire City of Auburn Hills.
RESIDENTS AND WATER USERS SHALL CEASE WATER USAGE FOR NON-NECESSARY ACTIVITIES such as watering lawns, washing vehicles, filling outdoor pools, or other recreational water activities.
The City of Auburn Hills DPW is taking this precaution because of a GLWA system pump station power outage, which has caused lower pressures to the area.
The water system is in an emergency operational state at the moment, so the above actions will help keep water available for all customers in the area, and adjacent Cities and Townships. You may witness or experience less than normal water pressure in all areas.
Failure to comply with this mandate may result in fines and/or TERMINATION of water service. Sec. 74-210.a(2) of the Auburn Hills code of ordinances governs this action.
The City of Auburn Hills DPW will continue to monitor the water system, but this restriction will remain in effect until further notice. The City will advise when the proper conditions have been met and the restriction will be lifted.

Oakland Township
On the morning of Thursday, July 16, the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) reported a water system failure that resulted in a loss of water service for portions of the southwest area of the Township. Water service is beginning to be restored in the affected areas; however, as a precaution, a Boil Water Advisory is now in effect while the water system undergoes the required testing to confirm that it is safe for consumption.
Orion Township (including Lake Orion Village)
Due to reduced water pressure from GLWA, Orion residents are asked to limit water use to essential needs only. This includes no outdoor water use.
Rochester Hills
EMERGENCY BOIL WATER ADVISORY:
Rochester Hills residents in the northwest portion of our community are under a Boil Water Advisory due to Great Lakes Water Authority experiencing a system failure around 8am today. Residents in the impacted area will experience low pressure until the GLWA system is working properly and we ask you to shut off your irrigation systems and avoid any extra water use. At this time, we do not have an estimated timeframe for when pressure will be restored. We will continue to share updates as they become available.
Great Lakes Water Authority released a statement saying “The cause of the disruption is being investigated. More information will be shared as it becomes available.”
