OXFORD, Miss. (WJTV) – A federal jury in Mississippi convicted a California man of firearms trafficking after a two-day trial.
According to U.S. Attorney Scott F. Leary, Yohannes Tekie Gebrezghi, 41, was stopped in New Albany by two Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) troopers. During a search of his vehicle, troopers uncovered 13 firearms, including pistols and AK-style rifles.

Investigators said the weapons were hidden in the vehicle’s door panels and hatch, along with ammunition, large-capacity magazines and $16,000 in United States currency.
Leary said evidence at trial confirmed that Gebrezghi had traveled from California, and he was a prior convicted felon. Gebrezghi will be sentenced on a future date.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) with the assistance of MHP and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI). The Fort Bragg, California Police Department provided further support in the prosecution.
