The Roseville Police Department will conduct a driving-under-the-influence checkpoint Friday night, according to officials.
The checkpoint will operate from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the Roseville city limits.
Police said checkpoint locations are selected based on data identifying areas with a history of impaired driving-related crashes.
“Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety,” Sgt. Mike Ryland said.
A first-time DUI conviction can result in an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a driver’s license suspension, police said.
Police also said some prescription and over-the-counter medications can impair a person’s ability to drive. Although recreational and medicinal marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.
The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
