SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A man accused of torturing a kitten to death inside a San Francisco bank’s entryway was taken into custody, authorities announced Thursday.
William Ohlson, 33, of Reno, Nev., was booked into the San Francisco County Jail on Tuesday for charges of animal abuse and resisting arrest.
In the early morning hours of July 1, Ohlson allegedly walked into a bank’s ATM vestibule in the 1800 block of Market Street with a small kitten and “proceeded to violently torture the animal to death,” the San Francisco Police Department wrote. After the brutal killing, the suspect left the area with the dead cat.
SFPD worked in collaboration with San Francisco Animal Care and Control to identify Ohlson as the suspect and locate him at a hotel on the 100 block of Fell Street.

On Tuesday, while officers were serving a search warrant at the hotel, a police drone operator notified law enforcement that the suspect had fled onto the roof. With the assistance of a San Francisco Fire Department truck ladder, officers accessed the roof and arrested Ohlson.
“The SFPD would like to thank the San Francisco Animal Care and Control for their diligent investigation into this disturbing incident and collaboration on this arrest as well as the Reno Police Department and the San Francisco Fire Department for their assistance in the investigation and apprehension respectively,” SFPD wrote.
